Following up on my report on BYD’s car, SUV, and pickup truck sales in June, let’s also have a look at its commercial vehicle sales. The company breaks out electric bus sales from this overall segment, and then also shares data on non-bus commercial vehicle sales.
Starting with BYD’s bus sales, they’ve basically just been coasting along, aside from a massive spike in sales in December and then a bit of a low month in January. Year over year, they were down 0.8% year over year in June, but they were still up 11.5% across the first 6 months of the year. But that’s nothing compared to BYD’s non-bus electric commercial vehicle sales.
BYD’s commercial vehicle sales started rising considerably at the end of 2024, and they’ve been soaring in 2025. In June, sales were up 333% year over year. Even better, across the first half of the year, sales were up a whopping 711%. In volume terms, they rose from 1,055 in June 2024 to 4,568 in June 2025; and they rose from 3,740 in January–June 2024 to 30,344 in January–June 2025. Stunning.
BYD’s commercial vehicle segment is notably different from its passenger vehicle segment, which is one reason why I prefer to separate this sales update from the passenger vehicle sales update. However, additionally, it’s just such stunning growth BYD is showing here that I always think it deserves its own headline. Of course, presuming the sales remain high through the end of the year, the 2025 total will absolutely crush the 2024 total. And I see no reason to think it would die down.
